Fall Classic Final Game Draws Over 50 Million Viewers In the US, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting extended contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run averaged a combined 51M spectators across the United States, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB stated this represents the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 after the 1991 contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

The Saturday epic game drew 27.33M audience members on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and their digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It additionally is the most-watched World Series game after the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This represents a 16% improvement over the previous finale between the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 ranked fourth, Game 4 was 7th, the fifth game came in eighth, and Game 3 landed in 13th place.

Global Audience Figures

In Canada, the game drew over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language broadcast in Canada since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up a single run in six frames – drew 13.1M spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Totals and Patterns

The full seven-match series drew 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen audience growth for two consecutive years.

Counting the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the total American average reached 16.1M. The total World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09 million viewers, an 8% rise over the previous year and Fox’s strongest playoff performance after the 2017 season.

MLB announced that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in sixteen different languages.
